Day 14, October 25
Partway Pemberton to Partway Northcliffe
Wonderful hospitality at Kingsley hotel from Jeanette and “Dog” – the soccer playing wonder dog!
Jennifer from Bankwest, Sharon and Tubby – a local man joined us for the day’s walk. Tubby reckoned we walked too slowly (he walks daily at 8km per hour!) – and left us for dust.
We encountered a warm welcome in Pemberton and then moved on through towards more Karri Country and partway to Northcliffe. Cath, Julie, Maureen and Coral provided another spectacular lunch in the shade on a very warm day. An extremely welcome rest after a few long hill climbs.
Our weary bones certainly welcomed the rest in the shade as well as a makeshift ladies loo (a pretty beaut alternative to snakes and blackberry bushes).
Finish today was some 15km short of Northcliffe – Judgey in his wisdom has encouraged us to collect a few kilometers in the bank to reduce our ensuing days to a maximum of 30kms. We will certainly appreciate this in the 8 days remaining.
A truly warm welcome on our return to Pemberton at Bankwest with refreshments supplied.. Tim Bowler, Area Manager, has been most supportive of our cause and all staff thus far in each branch has been marvelous.
After post event drinks and eats in the park opposite Bankwest the Crusaders headed off in the bus to Big Brook Dam for recovery. Worthy of anyone visiting locally as it has a great picnic area and white beach sand! We certainly appreciated CALM’s efforts (and there is a toilet!)
Bussed back to Pemby to the Gloucester Motel where we had fabulous accommodation and meals. Apex once again has been helping us with the raffle.
Alan Morrison interviewed Rick Hart and Ken Judge. Our extreme thanks to Rick for traveling from Perth solely for this event. Rick had some interesting anecdotes from a variety of sporting experiences. Essentially the message was “don’t bet”!
In a community of 1300 people our auction of sporting memorabilia raised $3,5440.
Sincere thanks also to Brenda of Gravel Road boutique for making emergency repairs to Karen’s good luck charm – at no cost
