Kerro's Crusade Day Journal

Day 15, October 26
Pemberton to Partway Northcliffe and beyond!

Breakfast a Gloucester Mote and then off in the Transit Bus (kindly donated for the event by Titan Ford) to our starting point for the day.

Light misty rain through the Karri Forrest made for a spectacular walking experience.  March through Northciffe and past the school made the day for us and a number of lucky kids with cameras ready.

Cath and Julie sourced a great lunch sport on the Bibbulum Track and provided soup and quiche.  The soup was certainly a great hit on a chilly day.

Mick Pember finished his term with us yesterday so we lost a valuable driver.  Winding, narrow roads mean we need 4 safety vehicles with two-ways to direct and inform of traffic conditions.

Ross was appointed lead driver for the day.  Having his vehicle the appropriate distance from the walkers, driving at 6km per hour, keeping the music going (whilst going slowly deaf) proved to be a challenging task – he’s a novice so we’ll let him make a repeat appearance.  Ross also won the award for best dressed driver in his SKINS.  Think - men in tights or an 80’s aerobic instructor and you have a mental image!

Tonight was scheduled as a rare night off – however we took the opportunity to visit the Pemberton Sportsmens Club, arranged by Arthur and Jan Mills of Ray White Pemberton.

Our support crew who work hard each day along with Arthur and Sir James also cooked the BBQ of steak and marron (from King Trout Farm).  Thanks to these guys, Julie for her huggggggge potato bake and Jan Mills for the loan of her kitchen and assistance in peeling a million potatoes.

Judgey answered question from the floor and made David Roche’s day by
Providing some personal footy advice.  David’s mum Sharon walked with us yesterday.

The folks at Pemby are certainly a generous lot – another auction yielded around $3,000!!

Today the Association’s Honorary Solicitor Peter Murray from Marks and Sands and his partner Jo Critch.  They walked for the entire day but Peter was a little miffed there was no Shiraz with lunch!

Kerro’s Medal of Courage awarded to Warren Groves for his dedication to our cause, driving every day and taking a return trip to Perth to transport people.

The Downlow was awarded to Ross Whiteman for not being able to read road signs as a driver and having poor dress taste as a driver for not wearing shorts with his skins)!

Peter and Jo, on departing, gave a donation of close to $750 from their respective offices/acquaintances – thanks so much.  Peter not only has assisted us in drawing up a new constitution but also finds time to walk and give.  Amazing
