Kerro's Crusade Day Journal

Day 17, October 28
Nearly to Walpole

Daylight saving so we started an hour later.  We were ready to go anyway.  Wonderful home preserved fruit courtesy of a local farmer to have with breakfast.

If we thought yesterday was cold we were wrong – this morning it was icy and hail continued – the wind blew a gale!

We’ve certainly experienced extreme temperatures and conditions.

Heat exhaustion, sunburn, sleety rain and cross winds blowing us off the road – road trains spraying sheep urine or sheep poop at you, cardiac hills to multiple rolling hills (going up is definitely easier than going down) and now arctic blast winds, drizzly rain and hail stones!

A few tests to challenge us from day to day – but hell we can walk and there’s a lot that can’t in this world.

Cath and Julie have upped the ante to cater for the cold weather.  Soup for morning tea and lasagna for lunch today – wow!  Guest walkers today were Terry Alderman and Libby’s husband Noel and Paul Bennett (Benno).

Darryl and Harry spent much of the day ferrying cars to our destination and covered around 400kms!

Harry’s in trouble for not getting the beer cold for post day drinks!

Champa’s, red wine and white wine and softies plentiful, just forgot the beer and now is definitely a Downlow candidate.

Accommodation for Walpole is the Rest Point Holiday park – we’re in cabins on the inlet but there is also a caravan and camping site.  The park is absolutely stunning and wildlife abounds.

Karen and Julie foraged in the big-bugger woods for a fire – great way to spend one evening with friends.  Yes the girls lit the fire as well but we had Fireman Dick close by – just in case!

Delightful kookaburras and maggies on our verandahs.  Probably one of the funniest sights was Harry losing his hamburger to a swooping Kookaburra and then Alan losing his Pizza slice the same way!

Not quite as cold today but the rain persists – Sambuca shots were provided at lunch time
