Day 19, October 30
Walpole – Denmark
Beautiful morning heralded by a chorus of kookaburras as our alarm clock at dawn. Millpond vista across the inlet with a dozen or so pelicans enjoying an early morning fish. Must come back to this gorgeous, peaceful part of our state.
Road wise, we seem to have broken the back of the hills as today’s walking was mostly on the flat (until the very end of the day’s Lemon Twister. “Don’t die on me now” was Judgy’s call to Libby.
Benno (“I’ll have what he’s having”) has encountered numerous blisters and now discovered his gait is apparently off centre, has limited movement in his big toe – creating issues with his hips and knees. He now wants ice packs (strapped) on the bus trip home too. We must look quite a sight hobbling into Bankwest – Dad’s Crippled Army.
Sarah has her work cut out from as early as 6am preparing or repairing our feet, ankles etc, re-adjusting tape, fitting condoms (on our toes) during the course of the day. Also popping blisters and applying the dreaded Friars’ Balsam, providing ice packs (strapped for the lucky), spraying Crusaders feet with Metho (mind the spray doesn’t waft onto our lunch or in someone’s cup of tea). The Metho apparently cools, dries & soothes our feet – also toughens them up to prevent blisters; too late for those with ‘poofter feet’.
Annette, Libby & Karen dodged tiger snakes in the bush for yet another day – boy is a toilet looking really appealing by this stage!
Staying in Denmark for next 2 nights at Surfside Ocean Beach Holiday Accommodation – another terrific place to consider for families or groups.
Dinner for most of us was Chinese Take-away collected from Denmark and an earlyish night after recovery in the Demark inlet.
Hoopster caught a 45cm pink snapper (legal size here) in the inlet
