Kerro's Crusade Day Journal

Day 21, November 1
Penultimate Day!!

Heralded by bagpipes and police escort x 2 WOOHOO.

Team hug and a few tears shed as we set off. Days now too precious too give up – perhaps we’ll keep on walking to Esperence just to keep up the camaraderie. (Just joking – we really must return to the human race with our other families again.) Kerro, Steve, Ron and others with MND are all in our hearts and minds right now.

Short walk – only 26 kms today, bit of a walk in the park really considering how far we have walked most days – averaging approximately 32kms each day and no more hills in sight.
Joined today by some guest walkers, all of whom have been touched personally by MND. A glimpse of what tomorrow may bring with a large number of walkers expected.
Recovery at Middleton Beach – great little eatery beachside served the best calamari like hot chips in a takeaway container. Yum.

No brave souls swimming today.

Last team function at Nonno’s in Albany and accommodation in a variety of options arranged and donated by Rino Danielle of Ray White Albany. Caltereigh, Albany Holiday Units and Middleton Mews.

Awards Nominations again – yes we’ve missed a few nights.
Downlow – there always seems to be plenty of nominations for this category…….

  1. Tom (Little Dick) - for his driving expertise in re-arranging an awning at our accommodation at Surfsie
  2. Tom (again) - for reversing too far into a ditch on a side road much to Crusader’s amusement & cheering. Even our police escort got into the swing of things and ‘whizzed’ his siren in support. Support crew went to lend assistance, police escort offered handcuffs!
  3. Sarah & Hilly - for having a swim at Denmark and not putting their keys, clothes and phones far enough up the beach and tide coming in. Yes they were wearing clothes in the water.
  4. Ross - Rule No 1 of the van driver’s association – fuel up before start of day’s walk.
  5. Harry – Warm beer AGAIN and champa’s with no glasses
  6. Judgy – Rule No 1 of the crew ‘Don’t touch the players’ late night toilet visit and being considerate to his house mates, Judgy   didn’t turn any lights on. On his return to bed, he apparently miss- judged     the doorway, went into the wrong bedroom, felt around for the edge of the bed and as he was about to climb in heard “Too far buddy” from Rod Cronin.
  7. Hilly – for dropping the biscuits roadside and losing half our munchies
  8. Hilly – for accidentally throwing a 2- way out the support car window
  9. Daryl & Ross- Whilst in the lead car having such a great time with the music, slowing down for the TV cameras to smile and wave. Slowed down too much and walkers walked into the back of the car!
  10. Karen – for getting the walk mixed up a wine tasting tour of the region
  11.  Sarah – for not only getting us on our feet each day but having to provide massage therapy in the back of one the support cars to Hillys’ arse (massage therapy only of course
