Kerro's Crusade Day Journal

Day 22, November 2
Final Day!

A large group gathered in support of the final day’s walk including many family and friends of walkers and Kerro, including Cheryl.
Tears flowed and hugs abounded before we set of for a bit of a stroll – only 12kms.

Fate didn’t let Cliffy down today; he has not only walked the whole way but has scoured the roadside every day for money. He has amassed around $32 in coins, a couple of pennies, a St Christopher’s medallion and an assortment of odds & ends. A whoop of delight is heard when Cliffy scores. Cliffy walks mostly near the rear of the pack and along the gravel so those up front have missed out or have lousy eyesight.

Guest walkers today included Kim Hughes and Shelley Taylor-Smith as well Andrew Startin. The students at Mount Lockyer Primary School in Albany lined their school fence to cheer us on – what a lovely memory for all. We had a scheduled break adjacent to the school and a lucky few played cricket with Hilly and Starto for a while.

All too soon the walk was finished, arriving in York Street Albany to a fabulous wecome. Bankwest were once again in attendance, seeing the return of Russell Stokes and his orange Bankwest Radio van and another presentation of $1000 from the bank.
A civic reception at the Town of Albany followed, where the Mayor opened the bar.

Final function was held at the Albany Golf Club, where Ray White Albany had co-ordinated a cocktail party. Musical entertainment was provided by students from Albany Senior High School. Andrew Startin and Kim Hughes provided some entertaining tales for all.

Judgy acknowledged all the walkers and crew, assuring us that we have undertaken and completed is a wonderful personal achievement as well as creating much needed awareness & funds for the devastating disease MND. Lifeline bonds have been forged. The staff of Ray White Corporate presented a pictorial plaque to walkers, crew and Cheryl in memory of our Crusade taken from a collage of photos along our journey.

A HUGE charity auction took place in Albany at the cocktail party as well as a final Phantom Race call where there was a 3 way dead heat.

Stay posted for the final figure raised…….
