Kerro's Crusade Day Journal

Day 7, October 18
Bunbury - Capel

Today was an early start with breakfast at the Bunbury Motel and Service Apartments.

Tody’s walkers were the nine main walkers less Ross Whiteman, the President of MNDAWA who has a severely infected toe afer spending yesterday in the “wet”.  Today he spent the best part of the day at Bunbury Regional Hospital – they recommended a hospital stay for IV antibiotics however he preferred to return to the team.

Ken and Annette Judge had known Kerro for a number of years through CBC Cricket and East Fremantle Football Club.  Rod Cronan was Kerro’s brother in law, Cliff and Cath Anderson were very close friends with Kerro through the Cricket and Footy, Libby Anderson and her husband Noel knew Kerro through the Footy, Ken Williamson (Cath’s brother) also knew Kerro through the Footy.

Dick Ryan, our lead driver had also known Kerro through Golf.  Warren Groves was a great supporter of CBC Footy and EFFC; his wife sue was secretary of CBC Footy for approximately 13 years.

Julie Touchell is the Secretary of MNDAWA and Karen Smart is the Treasurer.  Harry Marques, transport assistant, is a lifelong frien of Ross Whiteman.

Daniel Metcalfe our main rear safety driver has given up his annual leave to support the first half of the walk. Sarah Clarke, our podiatrist, yields from Victoria.  She has provided similar support along with Greg Hill ofr other chrity walks organized by Sportspro.  The expertise of Rod Loader and Alan Morrison have enabled us t have an amazing array of items to auction along the way.

Our evening “off” commenced with a beach recovery session before we moved to the Busselton Motel where we were treated toa BBQ provided by the “Bear”, Mrs Bear and the Bear Cubs – all from Apex!!  Mrs Bear also provided a tray of homemade lamingtons. YUM!  Lois and Graham Peck joined us for the evening .  Lois is on the Board of MND.

A journo from Busselton dropped in to gather some information for an article and ended up staying with us for tea.

Ross Glendinning had so much fun a few days back he decided to rejoin us early to continue the walk tomorrow.

The Kerro’s medal of honour was worn proudly all day by Cliffy before being passed on to dick Ryan for his dedication to driving.

Numerous worth nominees for the Downlow included Karaen for managing to fry not dry her socks in the microwave, Libby for trying to be helpful and giving her script for antibiotics to Ross (Ross was somewhat perplexed at the Chemist when he filled the script  it was an inhaler!  At least his chest will be OK).

The winner was Rod Loader for his ongoing “Missing in Action” status.
